Leading and leadership styles refer to the ways in which individuals use their authority and influence to guide and motivate others.
Different leadership styles can be effective in different situations, and the most effective leaders are often those who can adapt their style to the specific needs of their team or organization.
As an executive leadership coach, I believe it’s important to know, specifically, two leadership styles. As a result of knowing them, it will help you choose which is right for you.
The two different leadership styles are “presiding” and “prominent.” This is how you will choose which style is right for which situation:
Presiding leadership: Means to be in a position of authority or leadership. This means you are being the leader, a figure of authority and command.
For example, the CEO of a corporation is often referred to as the “presiding officer” because they have the authority to make decisions and guide the company’s direction.
Prominent leadership: Refers to a leader who is highly visible and influential. This type of leader is often seen as a role model for others to follow, and is known for their expertise and wisdom in their field.
For example, the CEO of a successful company is likely to be considered a prominent leader because they have demonstrated their ability to lead the company to success and are widely respected within the industry.
By realizing the difference between “presiding” and “prominent” leadership, you can choose who you need to be in different situations. The ability to adapt and change your style is a key skill that sets you apart from other leaders. Furthermore, being proactive in choosing the right leadership style for each situation can help you become a more effective and successful leader.
Lead From Within: Knowing the difference between the two types of leadership will help you decide who you need to be in what situation. Leadership is not only about the why or how; it is often about being the right person for the job.
