19 Small Things That Will Make You Wildly Successful

I have had the privilege of working with top leaders in all kinds of businesses. And I have found a definite pattern: their success is primarily the result of small actions repeated over and over.

Here are 19 small things that you can do to keep your priorities in line and success within your reach:

1. Accept yourself. When you know yourself you are empowered, but when you accept yourself you are invincible.

2. Build your character. Most people focus on what they do to become successful, but who you are is just as important. Strong character is the foundation of the best kind of success.

3. Define your priorities. Know what is important to you; be able to define it clearly. Then make sure it’s at the top of your priorities every day.

4. Cultivate competence. Anyone can dream big, but competence gives you the power to say it, plan it and do it.

5. Hold your focus. The world’s greatest achievers are those who stay focused on their goals and consistent in their efforts.

6. Keep your goals achievable. Even the biggest aim has to be achieved a step at a time. Get a sequence in place so you can keep your momentum and mark your progress.

7. Minimize distraction. If your email, your smartphone, your social media are a distraction, turn them off or put them away until the task at hand is done.

8. Build skills as a problem solver. Every path to success traverses problems, large and small. The skill to break problems down and find solutions is one you build like any other. Combined with tenacity, it will fuel you past most obstacles.

9. Practice the Edison method. Make your plans public and you’re automatically committed to making sure they come to fruition.

10. Prove your commitment. Look on how you spend your time. It will tell you whether you’re as committed as you say you are.

11. Have measurable outcomes. It is very easy to confuse being busy with being productive. Productivity should have outcomes that you can quantify and track.

12. Build great relationships. Theodore Roosevelt once said, “The single most important ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people.” The relationships you make and maintain are critical to your success, so treat them with the greatest care.

13. Get a coach. One of the biggest mistakes people make is thinking they have to do everything on their own. A good coach will believe in you, and encourage you, provide valuable feedback, and give you an experienced perspective. It’s exactly the kind of person you want in your corner.

14. Be engaged. Success does not happen in a vacuum. The more engaged you are with others, the more willing to help, the more you will find yourself and your dreams lifted up by the community around you.

15. Learn to Delegate. There will always be some tasks that only you can handle, but only a few. For most things, delegation improves efficiency. It allows tasks to be matched to skills and helps you build a trusted, committed team.

16. Keep learning. The most successful people always remain to some degree a student. As legendary coach John Wooden once said, it’s what you learn after you know it all that counts.

17. Be of Serve. The truest forms of happiness and success come to those who seek to serve others at every step along their path.

18. Slow down. People often think success means doing more, those who have been there will tell you to do less. Take the time to pause, reflect, meditate so you can manage your time better. Quality and mindfulness are more important than speed.

19. Plan for the future. Think about today but plan for the future. Having a vision is everything; if you can’t dream it, you can’t do it.
